Specimen Collection

Blood work, pathology, hormone panels, and routine screening drawn in our Spanish Town clinic — results coordinated directly to the specialist managing your care.

Most lab work in Jamaica means an extra trip somewhere else. A specialist orders a blood panel, the patient drives across town to a lab, waits in a queue, gets stuck, and then drives back home — and the result arrives by fax days later. The whole detour adds friction to care that should be one continuous conversation.

Amadeo's specimen collection is on-site. When the specialist orders blood work, hormone panels, lipid profiles, HbA1c, urinalysis, or routine screening, the draw happens at the same building, same day, same chart. The results come back directly to your Amadeo record — visible to the specialist managing your care without a fax-machine handoff in between.

One building. One chart. One conversation.

The patients we see most

The largest group is patients with chronic conditions on a regular monitoring schedule — diabetes (HbA1c every three to six months), hypertension and lipid panels for cardiovascular monitoring, thyroid follow-up. Having the draw on-site means the next specialist visit already has the numbers in hand, not pending in another inbox.

The next is annual screening — well-person check-ups, pre-employment medicals, pre-surgical work-up. These typically need a coordinated set of tests (CBC, basic metabolic, lipid, urinalysis, sometimes ECG and chest X-ray through our imaging partners) and benefit from a single visit rather than a chase across multiple facilities.

We also handle ad-hoc draws ordered by our own specialists during a consultation — same day, same building. When a gynaecology visit needs hormone levels or a urology visit needs a PSA, the patient walks down the corridor instead of out the door.

Why families choose Amadeo for lab work

No extra trip. The point of on-site specimen collection is that the patient doesn't have to coordinate two separate visits with two separate logistics. The specialist orders, the draw happens, the result lands in the same chart — all under one roof.

Direct specialist delivery. Results come back to your Amadeo record automatically; the specialist who ordered them sees them at the next visit without anyone manually chasing a fax. For chronic-condition monitoring, this is the difference between "your numbers are in the system" and "let me find your numbers."

Over 30,000 families have come through these doors. The lab pathway is part of that continuity — your historical trends, your previous panels, your seasonal patterns all live in one record. You and yours will be in great hands.

Specimen Collection FAQ

Do I need to fast before a blood draw?

Depends on the test. Lipid panels and fasting glucose require 8–12 hours without food (water is fine). HbA1c, thyroid, CBC, and most hormone panels do not require fasting. When the specialist orders the test we'll tell you which applies.

How long do results take?

Most routine panels are back within 24–48 hours from our partner laboratory. Some specialised tests (advanced hormone panels, certain cultures) take longer — we'll tell you the expected turnaround when the draw happens.

Can I bring a request slip from another doctor?

Yes. We accept lab requests from external providers — bring the request slip and we'll do the draw, process through our partner lab, and forward results to the doctor who ordered them. You don't need to be an existing Amadeo patient for this.

How much does lab work cost?

Cost depends on the specific tests ordered. We work with most major Jamaican health insurance providers; routine panels are often covered. Call (876) 676-5098 for current pricing of common panels.

Is the draw painful?

Most patients describe a brief pinch and nothing afterwards. The phlebotomist uses small-gauge needles and a calm, practised technique. If you're nervous about needles, tell us at the start — there are simple positioning and breathing techniques that make the draw easier.
