Who Should Visit Our Gynecology Department

Our women's health services are designed for patients at every stage of life.

Women Planning a Pregnancy

If you are thinking about starting a family, a pre-conception consultation helps identify health factors that could affect pregnancy outcomes and ensures you are in the best possible health before conceiving.

Expectant Mothers Needing Prenatal Care

From your first positive test through delivery, our prenatal program provides comprehensive monitoring, ultrasound imaging, nutritional guidance, and high-risk pregnancy management with Dr. Rockhead's 30 years of experience.

Women Experiencing Irregular Periods or Pain

Persistent pelvic pain, heavy or irregular periods, and painful menstruation could indicate fibroids, endometriosis, or hormonal imbalances that benefit from specialist evaluation and treatment.

Women Due for Routine Screening

Annual Pap smears, HPV testing, and breast examinations are essential for early detection of cervical and breast abnormalities. Women 18 and older should schedule regular gynecological check-ups.

Hot flashes, mood changes, sleep disruption, and bone health concerns during perimenopause and menopause can be managed effectively with personalized hormonal and non-hormonal treatment plans.

Gynecology & Obstetrics FAQ

What should I expect at my first gynecology visit?

Your first visit at Amadeo Medical Group includes a detailed health history discussion, a physical examination, and any necessary screenings such as a Pap smear or pelvic exam. Dr. Rockhead and our team create a welcoming environment where you can ask questions openly. We recommend bringing a list of any medications you take and noting your menstrual cycle dates. No referral is needed to book your first appointment at our Spanish Town clinic.

What does prenatal care include at Amadeo?

Our prenatal care program includes scheduled visits throughout your pregnancy with ultrasound imaging, blood pressure monitoring, blood tests, weight tracking, and fetal development assessments. We screen for gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and other conditions. Each visit is an opportunity to discuss nutrition, exercise, and preparation for delivery. High-risk pregnancies receive additional monitoring and specialist consultations as needed.

When should I see a gynecologist?

Women should begin seeing a gynecologist from age 18 or when they become sexually active, whichever comes first. Annual check-ups are recommended for routine screening. You should also schedule a visit if you experience irregular periods, pelvic pain, unusual discharge, difficulty with fertility, or symptoms of menopause. At Amadeo Medical Group, we welcome patients from across St. Catherine and Jamaica without a referral.

Does Amadeo handle high-risk pregnancies?

Yes. Dr. Rockhead has extensive experience managing high-risk pregnancies including those complicated by hypertension, diabetes, advanced maternal age, multiple pregnancies, and previous caesarean deliveries. Our facility in Spanish Town is equipped for comprehensive monitoring, and we coordinate with specialist hospitals when additional resources are needed for delivery.

What gynecological services do you offer?

Our department provides prenatal care, labour and delivery, family planning, contraception counselling, fertility evaluations, Pap smears, HPV screening, breast examinations, fibroid treatment, endometriosis management, laparoscopic gynecological surgery, and menopause management. We offer the full spectrum of women's health services at our Spanish Town clinic.

How often should I have a gynecological check-up?

We recommend annual gynecological examinations for all women from age 18 or when they become sexually active. Pap smears should begin at age 21 and continue every 3 years (or as recommended based on previous results). Women over 40 should also discuss mammography screening. Pregnant women will have more frequent visits following our prenatal care schedule.

Can I see a gynecologist without a referral?

Yes. No referral is needed to book a gynecology appointment at Amadeo Medical Group. Call (876) 618-0552 directly to schedule your consultation. We welcome women from across St. Catherine and Jamaica. Our clinic is open Monday through Saturday 8 AM to 7 PM and Sundays 10 AM to 3 PM.

What should I know about fibroid treatment options?

Uterine fibroids are very common in Jamaican women. Treatment options range from medication management for small fibroids to laparoscopic myomectomy (minimally invasive surgical removal) for larger or symptomatic fibroids. Dr. Rockhead evaluates each case individually, using ultrasound imaging to determine fibroid size and location before recommending the least invasive effective treatment.
