Gynecology & Obstetrics

Led by Dr. Charles Rockhead, MBBS DM OBGYN — nearly 30 years of practice. Prenatal care through menopause, all under one roof.

Most women already know when something has shifted. It's the period that came earlier than usual, the spotting that's lasted too long, the test that came back positive, the heaviness that hasn't gone away. What you want at that point is a doctor who has seen it all before, has the time to listen properly, and can move from question to plan in the same visit.

That's the practice Dr. Charles Rockhead has built at Amadeo. Nearly 30 years of OBGYN experience across prenatal care, delivery, fibroids, endometriosis, menopause, and the everyday reproductive-health questions that don't fit neatly into a 10-minute slot. The ultrasound, the labs, and most procedures happen here in Spanish Town — no chase across Kingston for a second appointment. Walk-ins welcome, seven days a week.

The patients we see

The full arc of women's reproductive health. Prenatal patients come for the routine schedule from first trimester through delivery — ultrasound, bloodwork, blood pressure tracking, and the in-between visits that catch small problems before they become big ones. Women managing fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis come for evaluation, conservative management, and surgical consultation when it's needed (laparoscopic surgical care is in the same building, with Dr. Rockhead leading both).

Younger women come for cycle questions, contraception planning, and reproductive-health concerns that need an honest, judgement-free conversation. Older women come for menopause symptoms, hormone management, and the cervical and breast screening that catches the early signs. And women who haven't been seen in a while — for whatever reason — come for the catch-up visit that gets everything back on a sensible schedule.

Why families choose Amadeo for women's care

Continuity matters in OBGYN more than almost anywhere else in medicine. Dr. Rockhead's nearly 30-year practice means the doctor who sees you for a check-up at 30 may be the doctor who delivers your child at 32 and follows up with your mother for fibroids at 60. That kind of continuity is hard to find anywhere on the island and rare even in private practice.

Everything in one building. The pelvic ultrasound, the Pap smear, the labs, and the consult all happen on the same visit when the calendar allows. When surgical care is needed — fibroid removal, ovarian cyst surgery, hysterectomy — it's performed in Amadeo's laparoscopic suite by the same team, with same-day discharge for most cases.

The wider bench is here too. 15+ specialists under one roof means an internal-medicine consult for chronic hypertension in pregnancy, a cardiology check for a patient with menopausal heart-disease risk, or a pediatrics handoff for the newborn — all in the same building. Over 30,000 families have come through these doors. You and yours will be in great hands.

Gynecology FAQ

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Rockhead?

No. Walk-ins are welcome seven days a week, and you can book directly. Bring any recent records, ultrasound reports, or test results from another provider so we can pick up where you left off without duplicating work.

Can I get an ultrasound the same day?

Often yes for pelvic ultrasounds; obstetric ultrasounds (especially anatomy scans) are usually scheduled because they take longer. Call (876) 676-5098 to confirm same-day availability before you come in.

What should I bring to my first prenatal visit?

Any prior prenatal records or ultrasound reports, the date of your last menstrual period, a list of every medication and supplement you take, your insurance details, and your partner if you want them in the room. We don't rush this visit — it sets the schedule for the rest of the pregnancy.

How is fibroid or endometriosis surgery handled at Amadeo?

Evaluation and conservative management happen in the gynecology consult. When surgery is the right answer, it's performed laparoscopically in our surgical suite — same-day discharge for most cases. Dr. Rockhead and the surgical team handle both sides, so the consultation and the operation stay with the same surgeon.

How much does a gynecology visit cost?

Cost depends on what's needed for your case. We work with most major Jamaican health insurance providers; pre-authorisation may apply for ultrasound and procedures. Call (876) 676-5098 for an estimate that reflects your situation and coverage.
